Setting: The land of brutal legend is a literal living album cover, every epic fantasy setting, every concert and every drunken night spent dancing in a mosh pit turned into something real. It is a very solid mixture of more modern things churned in with more classical fantasy tropes. I.E: Cars, modern clothing vs use of bladed weapons/no running water. The world itself is everything one could want in a land of heavy metal. Exhaust pipe trees, winged trees, microphone birds, stage/sound equipment growing from the ground, grand statues of instruments and weapons every which way. Land Of Metal is based on survival of the fittest, one has to be strong to survive. This is most obvious when one considers the in game folk lore that explains how the land of metal came to be. If not for the stories being factual, one could easily call them creation stories, but as it stands, these as far as the games narrative state are real. The Titans & Ormagoden (gods in world) grant those who please them gifts/currency.
Lets start at the beginning, where the land was dominated by the First Ones, an ugly race of creatures who lived in the darkness. They fought, fed, slept, bred and existed in a darkened world. This would be 'peaceful' existence was only disrupted by the appearance of Ormagoden, the fire beast, Cremator of the Sky and creator of the new world. Ormagoden brought light to the desolate world and angered the First Ones, due to the fact they had never seen themselves before, much less knew they were hideous beasts. The First Ones fled to live underground to escape the light. This discovery led to the First Ones to plot some way to extinguish Ormagoden's flames.
The beastly First Ones's first and most terrible ruler manages to capture Aetulia, a goddess whose voice was so beautiful it gave nourishment to the First Ones's main source of food, Madrial the teated tree of drinking. The capture of Atuelia lead to the recreation of The Land of Metal with the death of Ormagoden.
The ruler of the First One's set a trap for Ormagoden, using Atuelia's beautiful singing to lure him from the sky. The First Ones ambushed him in a trap, trying to put out his flame with mud and dirt. This backfired as Ormagoden refused to let himself be killed by others, he let out a scream causing an fiery explosion of metal, blood and fire. His death brought the creation of a new age, his body scattering into pieces across the land. Ore veining the ground, his blood flooding the world becoming the ocean, his cry echoed through the world, still echoing to this day and his left over fire becoming the sun.
Aetulia could only grieve for her part in Ormagoden's death, left alone in the darkness for an eternity to cry. She cried so long and so hard, she turned to dust. Only leaving a dark sea of tears behind in her wake. The tempting waters lure those who approach it to drink, if one does, they are given access to Aetulia's powers as well as her grief stricken madness. When the Titans emerge from the flooded world, they proceed to seal the sea off to keep themselves from drinking from the sea. Aetulia can be heard to this day, singing softly in an attempt to lure people to her shores for a drink.
As the flooding receded, new life emerged from the waves. The First One's descendants the Tainted Coil slithered from the sea first, they possessed the ugliness of The First Ones as they did the angry power of Ormagoden himself. The Tainted Coil were hated and feared, hunted down because of their kinship with The First Ones. They were only saved by The Titans, a race of beings who had Ormagoden's immense size, strength and Aetulia appearance. The Titans took the Coil in as pets, protecting them from outside forces whilst making the Tainted Coil serve them. The Tainted Coil had no complaints, they merely wanted to be like their merciful masters. This began the Coil's need to restrict their bodies in tight leather & spandex clothing.
The Titans poured over the land, digging up ore, building things and making new discoveries as they learned. Their culture flourished and thrived with ease. Titan's inventions led to Hot Rods/Chariots, musical instruments, skyscrapers, swords, armor, art, heavy metal as a music genre (the only genre really) and much, much more. This lead to the Titans to spreading across the world, smiting their enemies as they went and spreading their technology with them. These numerous inventions lead to the Titans ascending to the heavens, becoming gods themselves. They left instructions behind for the Tainted Coil, whom could not understand the writing. This lead to the Coil to panic, they struggling to deal with their emotions on the seemingly sudden abandonment. The Tainted Coil searched the land for their masters, only able to find a single solitary toenail left behind. The Tainted Coil could only worship the toenail, using dark bloody rituals to try and summon their masters back to earth once more. This lead to the creation of mankind, though the Coil considered it a mockery. They tried again, again and again only resulting in more humans. The Tainted Coil despised their creation, enslaving humanity for decades.
This cycle of abuse and slavery was only disrupted by a leader emerging, Riggnarok. He taught his fellow man how to survive, taught them they should rebel against their cruel rulers. His methods were so revolutionary and successful, the panicked Coil could only do one drastic thing, uncover the Sea of Black Tears. This only divided the rebellion, humans fighting against humans. Those who drank from the sea emboldened by madness renamed the uprising the black tear rebellion, attacking their fellow man as they lost more of their sanity. Riggnarok was the only one not to succumb to the temptation of the sea, vanishing into the ethers as the human rebellion devoured itself from the inside out. He left the humans to The Tainted Coil's mercy, the scattered humans were hunted down by the demons. This lead to decades of torture, sacrifices, and terror for humanity. The Tainted Coil setting up a large ritual in an attempt to steal secrets from the future to propel their own society to domination for the rest of time. They opted to send their most powerful warrior, their leader, Succoria.
With Succoria's leave, a vacuum of power opened up, it to eventually be claimed by Doviculus. This rule lasted for an untold amount of time, long enough for a human named Lionwhyte to step up and make a deal with Doviculus. He would directly control humanity and mining for the demons if Doviculus funded things. The demon ruler agreed on this and Lionwhyte took over, he taking control of the mining operation near center of the continent. It unknown how long he lead this operation, with Lars’s mention of decades its safe to assume Lionwhyte controlled things for a very long time.
This is where Eddie comes in, his death is what summoned a construct of Ormagoden to yank his body from a fallen stage to the land of metal. He was dropped into a temple on Tainted Coil lands. After the initial shock, he fought his way through the temple, trying to figure out just where he was. Eventually running into Ophelia. The two easily bonded over mutually stabbing demons. Their escape from the temple lead to Eddie aiding the new human rebellion in rebuilding. He meeting Lars and Lita as well. The two the only other freed humans wandering the lands. Slowly but surely he bonds with humanity, falling in love with Ophelia over the course of time. She returning the feelings as well, though it wasn't meant to last.
Eddie's actions cause the divide of factions and death of many. He is our central lead in the story of Brutal Legend. He brings the most amount of change to the lands since the Titans. He renews humanity’s lost culture and inspires others to do what he did. Be they for less than great purposes.
He leads to the death of Lionwhyte and total freedom of humans, this would be a victory if not for Doviculus showing up. He talking to Succoria, demanding she show herself. He tossing Ophelia's lost blade as proof of her presence. He only fueling suspicions among the group and making it worse after he kills the leader of the human rebellion; Lars.
The drama this causes leads to Ophelia's exile from Ironheade as a whole and Ironheade hiding out for three months in a snowy section of the landscape. Ironheade's peaceful uneventful time is disrupted by Ophelia's new rise to power. After taking a dip into the sea of black tears, she came back more powerful and looking for revenge against Eddie and Ironeheade as a whole.
After seeing what Ophelia has become, Eddie decides to chase after her through the continent of the land of metal. Be it out of bitterness or lost love, it is hard to tell with Eddie. He was just intensely focused on chasing her down. The two fighting skirmishes deeper and deeper into doom lands.
Doviculus remained out of sight, preferring to manipulate things from the background, he an unseen aggressor, egging the two on. He only emerging towards the end of the chase into Doom Lands to gleefully reveal Eddie's heritage to the roadie, Succoria and Riggnarok were his parents. He was half demon all along. Doviculus poured added salt into the wound by killing Ophelia. Throwing verbal digs at Eddie before the two fought.
After Doviculus's defeat, Eddie jumped into the sea, trying to retrieve Ophelia. He only able to pull her part way up before being dragged under into the sea himself. This is where he'll be plucked from.
The culture as a whole is divided very heavily between factions. Humans, demons and undead humans all operate in very different ways, asides the obvious connection of believing in the same deities and love of heavy metal.
The Tainted Coil operate within a hierarchy of power, submission and bondage. There is no questioning leadership, only obedience along with furthering the greatness of the Coil. Breeding is what one does in the Tainted Coil, making new fodder units and dedicating ones life to serve the emperor. The Tainted Coil life span is considerably short, due to a rapid growth and constant death cycle. Inbreeding is common and expected considering the fact the emperor is the only one allowed to expand the hierarchy. This society operates heavily on keeping their current lord happy. Even with the Titans leaving the Tainted Coil behind, the Coil still participate in binding their bodies in order to achieve what they consider perfection. They crave subjugation as a culture due to the lingering affects of their servitude to the Titans. Their worship of the Titans never really died away, dwindled but it still lingers.
Ironheade when freed from slavery is very much laid back when it comes to most things. Lively, talkative, usually drunk, and happy to be alive. Now as freed people, they emphasize the causal 'normal' metal fans, prone to drinking, partying and brash actions. Any time of the day, Ironheadeians will be drinking or partying in some manner. They live in a concert setting constantly. Ironheade is adjusting to their new freedoms, struggling to rebuild human society best they can. Especially when all of humanity has been through thus far has been war, rebellion, slavery and growing up in mines. They haven’t really delved deeply into anything besides warfare as they fight the Tainted Coil and the Drowning Doom. Ironheade believes heavily in old stories and all of the gods. The Titans reward them the most for following the credo of metal left behind by the Titans themselves.
The Drowning Doom as a culture is a strange one, they focus heavily death and grief. Death is seen as a very positive thing, no one in the doom fears death. Not when they could rise again with another drink of tears or being dipped into the sea. Being undead means they can continually rise even as they are mowed down by enemies. Even with that, the Doom relay on dreary dark atmospheres as their home. The cover of fog and rain is the best place you can find a member of the doom. As a culture they have no pull or inspiration beyond reliving their emotional torment. They dwell on the wrongs of their lives and can’t get past it, not after drinking from the sea. Without a strong leader members of the doom will languish in their darker emotions. They worship Atuelia and everything she stands for.
Personality: Eddie can be described in many ways, idiot savant, every day joe, charismatic bastard. No matter what you call Eddie, he is still easily a friendly kind of guy. Able to befriend most anyone and smooth talk his way into gigs. He can't be described as suave or a fast talking, but his genuine warmth and eagerness to help usually gets him somewhere. What can surprise people though is the fact his friendliness isn't an act, he does mean well with what he does and he always wants to help people. He strives to be helpful and get the job done right. He has a heart under all that heavy metal and he's quick to attach himself to people who he can see potential in. Some part of him wanting to make them shine. He will always put himself last when it comes to taking credit, even if Eddie likes to joke about bragging or quietly fist pump in victory to himself- he will not show boat and demand attention from everyone for something he did. Even if he has his cocky moments, Eddie won't languish in the victory for very long.
If he sees someone he thinks needs help Eddie will automatically attempt to jump in and do something to fix what's wrong. He'll pull people under his figurative wing and try to help them best he can, even if his help isn't desired. He'll try to give everyone a chance, until they prove themselves untrustworthy or seem entirely off. If betrayed Eddie is prone to holding a grudge. It'll take a lot of work before he willingly trusts someone who burns him.
Eddie can also be described as an idea man, someone who comes up with plans on the fly and somehow makes it work (most of the time!), he tends to wildly and blindly jump into situations with little forethought. If he thinks he can do something to aid the situation or just start something himself- he will jump in there willy nilly. He only ever realizes his mistake after everything is done and over with. This trait is also tired extremely close to his tendency to adapt to situations quickly, he usually only giving a cursory confused blink of surprise before rolling with the punches. He thinks on his feet and just tries to assess the new situation while he's on the move. He can and will adapt to most things thrown at him.
He can be considered immature at times. He usually doesn't think the implications of his words through very well nor what exactly his actions will cause. Be it a dirty joke or snap judgement, he doesn't really put too much thought into certain topics. He focuses most of his brain power into technical abilities or making some grand scheme to help everyone out. This leads to Eddie's mouth running a mile a minute elsewhere. When he's off in his own little world he can tend to ramble. It leads to a lot of terrible jokes and bumbling into saying the wrong thing.
With all the good does come bad, primarily his inherent distaste for anything too insanely different from him. Uncertainty and distrust will come in spades from him if you are a glam rocker/demon/undead goth/or a combo of the three. Eddie tends to judge things by monstrous appearance first, words second. He is immensely hateful of demons. If you are a demon, he will hiss, spit and snarl at you. His distaste for the different can be conflicting when he's confronted with something that questions his morals. He is a good guy at heart, but he tends to react before think.
He also has a horrible mouth, cursing up a storm and teaching anyone in the vicinity just what he'd do to you if he had a screwdriver on hand. Eddie is considerably calm about bloodshed. He generally is carrying around a giant axe, so be unsurprised when he pulls it free to hack at something. He speaks the language of brash unrelenting violence. He is unafraid to kill if he needs to, nor will he hesitate to take a killing blow. He usually relents when it's a person or someone similar to him. Eddie reacts very negatively towards Demons or anything outside of his norm. In the land of metal this level of warfare is considerably normal, which leads Eddie to not really dwell when he kills first and thinks later.
Appearance: Eddie can easily be described as a tank of a man, he standing somewhere in 6'7 range with broad shoulders and large impossible to picture muscles. He more or less is an artists nightmare. He has mid back length black hair with bangs sweeping off to one side, mutton chops, an almost constant five-a-clock shadow and soul patch settled on his chin. Eddie has large brown eyes, a few lines under them from lack of sleep, a soft nose and a surprisingly warm smile that makes his strong jawline look softer. He's almost permanently donned in casual worn in attire. A tight black t-shirt with an odd logo he never thought about printed in white across the front of the shirt, a lanyard with a crew pass around his neck, black leather vest, deep blue jeans and chuck taylors. The only things that stand out are his spikey wristband, colorful buttons decorating his vest lapels and odd belt buckle.
His general appearance only changes when he gets angry or there is a fight going on, the adrenaline will pump him up and make him change into his demon form. His skin turning a deep dark red color as well as a rough leathery texture, veins becoming more prominent, his hair taking on a reddish black tint, his teeth sharpening to points as well as his nails doing the same and glowing golden red eyes.
He can also summon wings in this form, they are more boney in nature and lighter than the rest of Eddie. Light enough that the wings membranes themselves have holes in places. They able to slip in and out of his back on whim.
Abilities: Thanks to being one of the better roadies around, Eddie has skills that range from the mundane (Making the perfect sandwich/Shining boots) to the extreme (Building a stage up from the barest minimum/making weapons.) His fighting abilities range in wielding his axes, a guitar he's affectionately named 'Clementine' and an actual axe that he cuts through enemies with. In the land of metal 'Clementine' can summon lighting and fire and the axe- well it just cuts things up real good. Beyond that when stressed or ready for a fight Eddie can change into a more demon form, it gives him the ability to fly, an up in his sense of smell, attack with more strength and withstand blows better then he normally would.
As mentioned above, Eddie can transition between two forms; human and demon. He outwardly changes appearances and seemingly gains more endurance during a fight alongside his new ability to fly.
Clementine as well as summoning lighting can also play guitar solo's. In Keelia a good portion of these solo's won't work. The solo's listed below are possibly useable.
*Anvil Of Burden
*Facemelter
*Battle Cry
Inventory: A lighter, a pack of cigarettes, his 'tour book' (aka a ratty old composition book he carries around with him), his mother's axe and Clementine.
Suite: I wouldn't mind it if he was placed it in the wood sector. A. to give him and Ophelia some space, B. so Eddie can stretch his wings a little. If there is no space, I'd be happy with the Water section.
In-Character Samples:
Third Person: His breath shook as he leaned his good shoulder heavily into the tree he managed to find. The sound of Kill Master was still far enough away that Eddie knew he needed to stop. Eddie knew pushing himself wouldn’t do much beyond make his shoulder considerably worse. He had to take it easy for a moment at least, otherwise he wouldn't be doing much fighting in the near future.
“Shit,” He breathed out as he gnawed at his bottom lip. The roadie grimacing as he tried to roll his shoulders, that proving to be a terrible idea as a shudder of pain tumbled through him. "Fuck, fuck," He closed his eyes at that, breathing tightly through his clenched teeth.
He was only pulled from his thoughts when he felt something come in contact with his arm, Eddie's first response was to jerk back further into tree. Pawing for his axe about to bring it up for a strike when a woman's voice cut him off. "Eddie?"
The familiar voice was enough to make him awkwardly grimace, he opening his eyes to look down at the Razor Girl. His hand dropping back to his side as he felt slightly embarrassed about acting like that. "Uh, hey,"
"Need some help?" She gave a friendly smile up at the roadie, hoping Eddie would take her up on the offer initially so she wouldn't have to drag him kicking and screaming to a Thunderhog.
He gave a slow nod in turn, his lips curving into a weak sort of smile. "That'd be, uh, pretty fuckin' sweet actually,"
She gave a soft laugh at that, offering Eddie her arm, he readily taking it as he pushed away from the tree. "Lets get you to Kill Master, I'm pretty sure he'll have a few choice words for you,"
"Yeah, yeah," He grumbled as he walked with her towards the gathering of Ironheade troops. The lull in battle leaving them to huddle together and heal up while they still had the chance.
Network: Does anyone wanna actually fill me in on this- whole 'you're on a giant ass turtle' thing?
Cause, that'd be really great. Since last I checked I was in the middle of somethin' pretty important. Somethin' which doesn't involve babbly bullshit about weird ass giant turtle business. I'm willin' to believe I'm suddenly in another world or whatever, been there, done that, but, uh, what I've been told ain't exactly makin' me a believer. Needs more, hot chicks with swords to make me a believer, you know.
[Eddie pauses for a moment, holding up a finger in a 'give me a second' hand motion before clapping his two palms together in mock prayer. He closing his eyes really tightly before speaking.]
Oh holy turtle spirit, tried and true, send me the fuck home- shooby dooby doo. Oh how I really, really fuckin' believe in you!
[There is a pause as he waits. He opens an eye briefly, a frown curling across his lips.] Okay, so shooby dooby doo don't work- Ahem, oh turtle spirt, world thing- can't you please hurtle my ass back home? I know I ain't readin' from some mystical tome of shells and green, but man oh man, I'd sure love to go home. I'll send you an IOU for my presence here, really. I'll send you a algey basket do turtles eat that shit, oh fuck it, whatever- with some bugs and leaves too. Cause that shit is legit… right?
Cause, you know we're fuckin' tight, you and I turtle. Best friends forever.
…I'll make you a friendship bracelet? [He has to pause, before letting his hands fall to the side.]
Well, shit.

Well, shit.
